This package is designed to support academies and free schools to meet the DfE requirements for statutory moderation at KS1 and KS2, as detailed in STA guidance documents. Moderation:
All academies and free schools must elect a Local Authority for moderation of teacher assessment at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
The Royal Greenwich moderation team comprises of both Local Authority officers and experienced practitioners in Royal Greenwich schools, many of whom are Senior Leaders. All moderators are provided with training each academic year, including moderation of current pupil work, to ensure consistency in judgements across the team. Any standardisation required by STA guidance will also be completed for all moderators in the team. Additionally all moderators are Quality Assured by Local Authority officers during the moderation process.
A school identified for a statutory moderation visit would be allocated at least 2 moderators from the Royal Greenwich Moderation Team. This approach not only provides additional Quality Assurance during all visits but also promotes the ‘professional dialogue’ approach which we believe is essential to the moderation process. Details on team size and length of visit can be found in the pricing section below.
If a school is identified for a moderation visit a notification email will be sent to the Headteacher including details of the date, time and moderation team. All documentation relating to the statutory moderation visit will also be included.
A moderation record of the visit is completed plus verbal feedback to the Headteacher will also be provided.
Moderation workshops are also available during the academic year as part of the Royal Greenwich Direct Services CPD offer. http://servicestoschools.royalgreenwich.gov.uk/courses
These workshops provide Year 2 and Year 6 teachers with an opportunity to moderate their work in small groups, with colleagues from other schools, facilitated by a Royal Greenwich moderator.
A Royal Greenwich moderation appeals process is in place in line with DfE requirements.
